CIS Student Success Stories
CIS Graduate, E. E. Waddell High School
Diana is a leader in every sense of the word – academically, socially, in the community, and in her athletic pursuits. She graduated 6th in her class at E.E. Waddell with a 4.03 GPA. She excelled on the girls soccer team, was a member of the National Honor Society, served as a peer tutor, and took the lead on numerous community service projects.
Diana participated in CIS all four years at Waddell and developed a close relationship with her SiteCoordinator, Shantiqua Neely. “Diana is such an inspiration,” said Ms. Neely. “She ran for Homecoming Queen primarily to be a role model for other Hispanic girls at Waddell. She raised money to pay for another student who couldn’t afford to go on our spring break trip. Diana is a selfless young lady who also possesses the true character of a leader.”
Ms. Neely was not the only one who saw leadership potential in Diana: at the CIS Celebrating Our Graduates luncheon in April, Diana was named winner of the CIS Leadership Award, the top award given to a CIS senior.
In addition to leadership opportunities, Diana says CIS provided her with invaluable guidance
to prepare and apply for college. She is the first in her family to attend college and is currently a nursing student at Central Piedmont Community College.
